George Frederic Handel (1685-1759) 은

독일 태생의 영국 작곡가입니다.

 

그의 이 멋진 분위기를 뿜어내는 성악곡 Dank Sei Dir, Herr 는

그의 사후에 오랜 세월이 흐른 후 나중에 발견되어졌습니다.

 

이 곡의 독창 부분이 들어간 본래의 헨델 악보는 독일어로 쓰여졌고,
제목은 "Dank Sei Dir, Herr" ("Thanks to you, Lord")였다고 합니다.

 

원래의 가사가 있는 악보에 다음과 같은 글이 첨부되어 있었답니다.

 

"대단히 종교적인 분위기의 이 노래는
현세기(20세기?)초에 와서야 빛을 보게 되었다.
이 곡의 정확한 원자료는 아직 안알려졌지만
이 음악의 스타일과 작법으로 보아 의심할 바 없이 헨델이 작곡했다."

 

John McCormack 이나 Kirsten Flagstad 같은

과거의 알려진 성악가들이 수차례 그 부분을 언급했습니다.

 

헨델의 `리날도'중에 나오는 유명한 아리아인
`날 울게 내버려두오 Lascia ch'io pianga'에서도 나타나지만.
여기에서도 헨델의 음악을 특징 짓는 요소들을 발견할 수 있습니다.
그것은 바로 멜로디와 화성의 복잡함의 단순화와 절제로 얻어지는

위대성이라고 할 수 있습니다.
 - "minimum of melodic and harmonic complexity."
